Cape Town's weather can be a fickle beast, so it's best to pack layers. Bring lightweight and breathable clothing for warm days, as well as a sweater or jacket for cooler evenings. Don't forget to pack comfortable shoes for exploring the city.

Cape Town is a vibrant city with endless options for a fun and lively holiday. Start by exploring the bustling V&A Waterfront, where you can browse boutiques, dine at waterfront restaurants and enjoy live entertainment. For sun-drenched days and trendy beachfront bars, head to the beautiful beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay. Of course, no trip to Cape Town is complete without a trip up Table Mountain in a cable car to soak in breath-taking views, wandering the colourful streets of Bo-Kaap and sampling Cape Malay cuisine. If you’re up for a scenic drive, look no further than Cape Peninsula, which starts from Cape Town and extends all the way to Cape Point. Be sure to stop in at Boulders Beach on your way through to visit the penguins.

Cape Town has many different facets to explore, from Table Mountain to the Cape Winelands. Spend at least four to five days here to enjoy the top attractions, taste the local cuisine, and experience the city’s unique mix of nature, culture, and adventure. Ten days is even better, and allows a slower pace with some day trips or a weekend tasting wine.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months from November to March, when you can make the most of beaches, outdoor dining, and nature activities.  December is especially popular for South African school holidays and festive-season trips, so expect a lively atmosphere, higher demand and busier beaches and restaurants.

For fewer crowds, consider spring or autumn. September to November is lovely for flowers, mild weather and whale watching nearby, while March to May often brings sunny days, calmer conditions and a slightly slower pace. The winter months of June, July, and August offer great value and lots of restaurant specials, but the weather can be variable – be prepared for wind and rain.

Cape Town weather can be famously changeable, so think in layers! Pack light, breathable clothing for warm days. Bring a jacket for cool evenings or rainy days. Remember comfortable shoes for exploring.

Don’t forget sunscreen, swimwear, and a hat if you plan to spend time outdoors or on the beach.

Yes, many of Cape Town’s main attractions are easy to explore on foot, especially popular attractions like the V&A Waterfront, parts of the city centre, and the area around Green Point and Sea Point.

For beaches, Table Mountain, Cape Point, you can easily catch an Uber or Bolt. They’re widely available and fairly priced. However, for sights further out, like Cape Point or the Cape Winelands, a car or guided tour is recommended.

The area around V&A Waterfront and Green Point is a great choice for first-time visitors who want easy access to restaurants, shopping, tours and family-friendly attractions. For those who want nightlife, fantastic restaurants, and a more gritty “big city” feel, the City Bowl is a firm favourite.

Camps Bay is an upscale area ideal for beach stays, sunset views and a more glamorous holiday, ideal if you’re looking for gorgeous oceanfront stays or are celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary. For a quieter escape, consider staying in Constantia or the Winelands.

Start with iconic sights like Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, Robben Island, Bo-Kaap and the beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton. For coastal scenery, add Chapman’s Peak, and Cape Point. If you have kids (or just love wildlife), the trip to Boulders Beach to see the penguins is a true highlight.

If you have extra time, include Constantia or the Cape Winelands for wine tasting, long lunches and mountain views. Each area adds a different side to the trip, from beaches and city buzz to food, wine and nature.
