Go it on your own or take part in an organised snorkelling tour. Want to see even more? Take it a step further and learn to dive with a qualified instructor.
Next on your itinerary is a trip to Mount Otemanu on a day tour. A remnant of an ancient volcano, this grand and beautiful mountain rises a whopping 727 metres over Bora Bora. It’s not possible to hike to the summit, however, guided hiking tours operate around the base. Guided off-road tours of Mount Otemanu offer a fun way to discover the natural beauty of the area and an opportunity to see American cannons from World War II.
Complete your trip with a stop at picturesque Matira Beach. As one of the only public beaches on Bora Bora, this stunning strip of sand is popular with visitors and locals alike looking for a spot to laze the day away and swim in the island’s breathtakingly blue waters. Stick around until evening and you’ll have a prime spot to experience possibly the most romantic tropical sunset ever.

There’s no doubt that the resorts on Bora Bora offer quality dining and entertainment at their own restaurants and bars. But it’s worth venturing out here and there to experience the island’s delicious French cuisine, local delicacies and excellent cocktails.
You’ll find restaurants and cafés around Vaitape Village and Matira Beach, while snack shacks scattered around the island offer cheap eats. Be sure to try the local fish and seafood dishes – Poisson Cru, tuna marinated in coconut and lime, is a favourite. For a local Tahitian brew, ask for Hinano when ordering a beer.

The most iconic accommodation option in Bora Bora is, without a doubt, the island’s overwater bungalows. If you want to be close to the action, an overwater bungalow on Bora Bora mainland will suit you best – and who could resist the glass-bottomed floors that showcase the region’s sparkling turquoise water?
If you don’t mind being a short boat ride from the mainland, opt for bungalows on little islets of their own, or even on a private island. Just how luxurious you go is up to you.

You’ll find plenty of quaint little shops and boutiques around Vaitape Village that sell everything from clothing, souvenirs and books to the island’s specialty: Tahitian pearls (black pearls).
You’ll also have the opportunity to take home beautiful and unique local art and handicrafts such as woodcarvings, paintings and pareu (sarongs). Be sure to stop by the oldest and largest art gallery and studio on the island, Galerie D'Art Alain Linda.
