Frequently asked questions

The location of the Seychelles between India and Africa make it an ideal stop-off for cruise ships crossing either way over the Indian Ocean.  Cruises visiting South African destinations, and destinations in Madagascar, Mauritius, India, Sri Lanka, South-East Asia and Australia frequently pass through Seychelles - as do some cruises crossing between the Middle East and Madagascar.

Yes. Not only do several family-friendly cruise lines include Seychelles in their itineraries, the clear calm waters of the tropical archipelago mean it's also a great destination to take the family for a beach holiday!

The length of cruises that include Seychelles in their itineraries range from Holland America Line's 124-day Grand World Voyages to the more frequent 10- to 16-day island hopping cruises around the Indian Ocean and often include Southeast Asian ports. These mid-length cruises are offered by luxury lines such as Ponant and Silversea and larger entertainment-oriented cruise lines such as NCL and Holland America Line. Be aware that none of these cruises currently depart from the South African cruise ports of Durban and Cape Town.

Inclusions on a Seychelles cruises depend on the package, cruise line, and ship. Luxury cruise lines like Silversea typically offer an all-inclusive experience that includes meals, beverages, and shore excursions. In contrast, mainstream lines like NCL might offer packages where meals and entertainment are included, with additional costs for beverages, special dining, and excursions.

Seychelles is a visa-free country, which means you're not required to apply for a visa to holiday there. However, you'll still need your passport!

The Seychelles archipelago has some of the most pristine beaches in the Indian Ocean with numerous marine sanctuaries. Whether you enjoy water-sports, glass-bottom boat tours, swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving or sailing, Seychelles has you covered for your dream beachy holiday. With almost half the total area of its islands protected by nature reserves, Seychelles also offers you plenty of opportunity to hike among its tropical forests for encounters with rare wildlife such as the Seychelles black parrot.

Cruises to Seychelles can be as luxurious as you like. From luxury yacht-style cruise lines like Emerald Cruises and Ponant to the mid-size luxury of Silversea cruises or the more family and entertainment orientated big-ship cruise lines such as Norwegian Cruise Line, there's a cruise to suit your budget and style. Be aware that none of these cruises currently depart from the South African cruise ports of Durban and Cape Town.

Absolutely, Seychelles' Creole culture reflects heritages from Africa, the Middle East, Europe and India – all of which enliven the local cuisine, art and music. The best way to experience the infectious joy of Creole culture is to visit the islands' port capital Victoria in October when the annual "Festival Kreol" takes to the streets with parades, food, music and performances.

With its year-round tropical climate, Seychelles invites exploration of its beaches and lush rainforest. Essential clothing includes; short sleeve t-shirts, shorts, skirts, swimwear, sunhat, reef shoes (for beach areas where there's coral) and comfortable walking shoes for excursions. Essential documents you may need in Seychelles include your passport/I.D, insurance documents, copies of prescriptions, and local currency (Seychellois Rupee/SCR).
