Cook Islands Nightlife

If you’re seeking a fun and wild night out, then Rarotonga is the island for you. Once Friday night arrives, the party begins with pub crawl buses picking up visitors from affiliated hotels and hostels and showing everyone the highlights of Rarotonga’s nightlife. The bars and clubs aren’t just for tourists and you’ll meet a lot of friendly locals while you’re out.

Whether your style is a romantic lagoon-side restaurant with live local music, cheap happy hour drinks at a rustic beach bar or a pumping DJ at a raging club, there’s something to suit everyone. Night clubs are usually open at late as 2am and the iconic seaside bars in Avarua deliver custom cocktails, lively music and well-known local celebrities.

Rarotonga may have the biggest selection, but you can still find a thriving nightlife scene on Aitutaki. The Samade Bar is located right on Aitutaki Blue Lagoon and there’s a nightclub in the main town of Arutanga. Cultural night shows are held most nights and offer an intimate look at Polynesian culture with fire dancing, music and eclectic crowds.

Trader Jacks

Rarotonga

One of the most popular establishments on the Cook Islands, Trader Jacks is a bar with an old soul. This iconic Cook Islands watering hole is the place to go for a drink or meal amongst friendly locals and tourists. Renowned for good food, excellent parties, live music and its picturesque waterfront location in Avarua, Trader Jacks often delivers a great night to all who enter.

TJ’s Night Club

Rarotonga

TJ’s is one of the island’s main nightclubs and caters to anyone aged between 18 and 25 (or those similarly aged at heart). A lively dance floor, delicious drinks and an entertaining DJ keep the party going until the early hours of morning.

Whatever Bar & Grill

Rarotonga

As one of the most renowned bars in Rarotonga, Whatever Bar and Grill is a must-visit during your time in the Cook Islands. Friendly staff treat you like a local and the atmosphere is always fun.
