Top 10 Bucket List Experiences

Most of us have a so-called bucket list of things we want to see or do during our lifetime. Whether it is zip-lining over a pool of crocodiles, doing a wing-walk on an aeroplane, taking a sky-dive, dog sledging in the Arctic Circle, attending the final of some major sporting event, shark diving or bungee jumping off some impossibly high place, we all have our personal preferences.

However, some bucket list experiences stand head and shoulders (literally) above the others.  You may not have thought of some of the following so we take this opportunity to whet your appetite and take you on a mini journey to some places that will blow you away and possibly make you rethink your bucket list.

From witnessing the Northern Lights, trekking through Uganda to seeing the gorillas up close and hiking to the top of Mount Everest.

1. Northern Lights (Iceland)

Photographs and videos merely touch the surface when showing you this exquisite natural phenomenon. You simply must see the Northern Lights for yourself to appreciate their beauty.  And Iceland is famous for having great spots from which to view them and of course the country has many experienced guides to take you to these viewing sites.

2. Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam)

Hectic and vibrant, Vietnam’s largest and southern-most city is best seen on foot. Ho Chi Minh City might seem an impossible task to cross busy streets buzzing with a thousand motorbikes, but you’ll soon find yourself doing as local pedestrians do and cross at a steady pace as all the two-wheeled traffic weaves smoothly past you. Top visits include the War Remnants Museum and the ornate French-built Saigon Central Post Office.

3. Hot air ballooning in Cappadocia (Turkey)

Cappadocia is one of the most popular places for hot air balloon flights in the world, and that’s because of its unique landscape and perfect all-year-round weather conditions. There are roughly about 260 flying days in a year and at times over 150 balloons are floating simultaneously over the region.

4. Private game reserve (South Africa)

South Africa is famous for its wildlife and its conservation efforts.  It has numerous national game reserves, the most famous of which is the Kruger National Park.  However, there are also many privately owned game reserves offering luxurious lodges or tented accommodations, thrilling guided walking safaris and spectacular scenery.

5. Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania)

Kilimanjaro is not only Africa's tallest peak, but it’s also the world's tallest free-standing mountain.  Climbing Kilimanjaro is mostly straightforward because the trails are not too steep and can be easily tackled by fit individuals.

6. Machu Picchu in the Andes (Peru)

Often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", this royal estate is the most familiar icon of the Inca civilization and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The ruins are situated atop a 2,400+ metre mountain range.  It is easily accessed by "the tourist train" which runs daily.

7. Mountain gorillas (Uganda/Rwanda)

Visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda to view its population of gorillas, while Rwanda is also a good option as it has more than twice the number of habituated mountain gorilla groups than Uganda.  Permits are generally more easily available in the latter country.

8. Mount Everest base camp (Nepal)

The goal of hardened mountaineers is to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest.  While scaling this peak will not be within the reach of even the most intrepid hiker, the Everest Base Camp trek is a very popular route, overnighting at the trekking lodges (known as teahouses) on the way there, and overnighting at the base camp itself.

9. The Grand Canyon (USA)

The Grand Canyon in Arizona is not only one of the world’s grandest natural wonders with spectacular vistas, but also vast!  It averages 16 kilometres across and the bottom of it is over one and a half kilometres down to the Colorado River which winds through the gorge for about 450 kilometres.

10. Greece

From its ancient heart around the Acropolis to swanky inner-city districts such as Kolonaki, a visit to Athens lays bares the span of Western civilisation. A paradise for history buffs, the city’s streets are open museums of the art and architecture of countless eras: classical Greece and Rome, the Byzantine age, and the Ottoman conquest.

We hope the list above gave you some amazing considerations to travel to the next time you plan an adventure of a lifetime! We are your “Bucket List Centre” and we are waiting to help you plan your incredible bucket list travel destination.
