About Istanbul Airport (IST)

Istanbul Airport (IST) opened in 2018 (replacing the former Atatürk Airport) and is now the main international gateway for travellers arriving in Turkey, not to be confused with the country’s secondary airport, Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, on the Asian side of the city. Thanks to Turkey's geographic position between Europe and Asia, Istanbul Airport is consistently among the busiest in Europe and handles over 80 million passengers yearly. Did you know it’s also one of the world’s largest airports? Istanbul Airport’s main terminal building is huge, spanning a staggering 1.4 million square metres!
