The Fort Lauderdale Airport Express Bus (Route 500) runs 24 hours to downtown Fort Lauderdale in about 15 minutes and on to downtown Miami in around 30–40 minutes. Tickets cost approximately $8–15 depending on your destination – a solid option for getting around South Florida. 

Taxis are available at designated curbside zones outside each terminal. A taxi to downtown Fort Lauderdale takes around 10–15 minutes and costs approximately $20–25. Ride-share services such as Uber and Lyft are also widely available. 

A large Rental Car Centre is located on airport property, connected to Terminal 1 by a walking bridge and to other terminals by shuttle. Major agencies including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National all operate from the centre. Broward County Transit Route 1 provides a direct, low-cost connection between FLL’s Rental Car Centre and downtown Fort Lauderdale via Broward Central Terminal. 

FLL offers a range of parking options including short-term, long-term and economy lots. Pre-booking online is recommended for the best rates. 

FLL’s four terminals are connected by free inter-terminal shuttle buses that run continuously, 24 hours a day. The ride between terminals takes just a few minutes. 

A large number of airlines fly into and out of Fort Lauderdale Airport, including JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, Southwest, American Airlines, Delta, United, British Airways, Emirates, Copa Airlines, Air Canada, WestJet and many more. With around 30 airlines serving destinations across the US, Caribbean, Latin America and Europe, FLL is a major South Florida gateway. 

As a general rule, you should aim to arrive at Fort Lauderdale Airport at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Peak times can get pretty busy, so giving yourself that extra buffer is always a good call. Yes, Fort Lauderdale Airport has lounges including the UpperDeck Lounge in Terminal 1 and the Lomond Lounge in Terminal 3. Amenities include food, drinks and Wi-Fi. Access is available by purchasing a day pass, through lounge membership programmes such as Priority Pass, or via qualifying airline tickets. While there are no hotels within the terminal itself, the airport lounges provide comfortable spaces to rest during layovers. There are also numerous hotels located very close to the airport. If you’ve got time to spare, downtown Fort Lauderdale and the beach are just a short ride away – not a bad way to spend a layover.
