Up for some adventure? Experience all the heart-thumping thrills, action and excitement of spectacular Cape Town! From outdoor adventures and seaside spills to city thrills and aerial escapades, you’re sure to find something to blow your hair back in the amazing Mother City.

Mountain Mania

Let’s face it: if Table Mountain isn’t at the top of your to-do list in Cape Town, you’re doing it wrong! This world-famous mountain is, without a doubt, the bedrock of outdoor adventure in the city. Abseil along sheer cliffs. Go kloofing and canyoning down gorgeous gorges and tumbling waterfalls. Rock climb on craggy outcrops. And discover mysterious caves on winding hiking trails. Need a little breather? Take in 360⁰ -views of the city on a cable car ride to the top.

And while Table Mountain is definitely the main attraction, don’t let it distract you from the many other action-packed peaks nearby. Hike up Lion’s Head under a glowing full moon. Watch the sunset from the top of Signal Hill. Explore the oldest trail in Cape Town along the pipe tracks. Discover the secret Tranquillity Cracks tucked away between deep, cave-like crevasses. Then venture further afield to scenic Silvermine for top-tier mountain biking and climbing. Rock on!

Excitement at sea

Near the meeting point between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, Cape Town has no shortage of wet and wild activities to quench your thirst for adventure. Grab a surfboard and hang ten in Muizenberg or learn how to wax the waves at the Surf Emporium surf school. Kayak with penguins at Boulder's Beach. Paddle around False Bay under a full moon. Or find your balance with some stand-up paddle boarding. Kiteboarding, windsurfing and wakeboarding are also super-fun ways to tame the waves. For those who love the ocean but aren’t keen on getting wet, take a leisurely horseback ride along lengthy Noordhoek beach.

Next, take the plunge and get up close and personal to the myriad marine life beneath the waves. Snorkel and dive with Cape fur seals. Or if you’re feeling really brave, climb into a cage and come face to face with great white sharks and other denizens of the deep. Not a fan of the open water? You can experience it all in the predator tank at the Two Oceans Aquarium while diving with sharks, rays, turtles and a host of other toothy sea creatures.

Thrills in the city

You don’t need to be on top of a mountain or under the sea to get your adrenaline fix in Cape Town. If you have a need for speed, zoom along the high-tech go-karting track at Killarney or Century City. Rent a bike and cycle down scenic Sea Point Promenade. Then get active at the outdoor gym in the lush Green Point Urban Park. For a wild ride, head to Ratanga Junction Theme Park where the high-octane Cobra roller coaster will really get your heart racing. Then get your toboggan on at Cool Runnings as you whizz along 1.25km of swervy curves and loops. Still have some energy left? Show off your sand boarding skills on the epic dunes in Atlantis.

Air-raising activities

Turn your eyes to the skies and you’ll see a whole new playground of exhilarating activities. Take a tandem skydive and experience 40 seconds of breathtaking free fall. See the city from a whole new point of view as you paraglide off Lion’s Head or Signal Hill. See the incredible Cape Floral Region strewn with colourful fynbos and blooming King Proteas spread beneath your feet on a canopy tour. For something really different, take a few flips around the city in a rugged Vietnam Huey helicopter. Slow things down a little with a relaxing stroll along the Boomslang Aerial bridge in gorgeous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Or drift away on a hot air balloon over the lush winelands.
