We are lucky to live in one of the most scenic, and fun countries in the world. With so many exciting activities and attractions for the whole family, from game parks to theme parks, amazing beaches and spectacular mountains and hills, there really is something for everyone.
Get up and go in Gauteng
Pack a picnic basket, load up the braai and take the family off for a day filled with sun and water fun at Stoke City in Midrand. They’ve got a cable ski where you can wakeboard, kneeboard or ski, and have also got an obstacle course in the water which will drive the kids and the young at heart crazy.
Gold Reef City is also a favourite for spending the day with the family and has loads of rides for all ages, fun attractions, restaurants and shops.
Keep it cool in the Cape
Besides visiting one of the beaches along the spectacular Cape coastline, why not take a trip up Table Mountain, either with the cable car or under your own steam with a hike? Take the kids to see the penguins at Boulder beach and take a cool dip in the sea before heading to the V&A waterfront for dinner.
You could also visit the Cango Caves, take a boat trip to Seal Island or go Kayaking in Tsitsikamma and for the really brave members of the family, why not bungee off the Bloukrans Bridge.
Going Bananas in KZN
If you’re in KZN this holiday it probably means you’re looking forward to some good beach-time. Head off to Durban’s promenade and hire bicycles for the family and take a long slow ride from Blue Lagoon to uShaka Marine World, or take a trip up the Moses Mabhida Stadium for spectacular sea and city views.
Walk along the beach from Ballito to Thompsons Bay and see what you can find in the rock pools before enjoying a quieter spot on the beach in one of the small coves, or take the kids off to the Thompsons Bay tidal pool for the day.
What a way to spend a day in Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga is a natural wonderland with national parks, waterfalls, mountains and more. This means you and the family can enjoy some of the best game drives in the world, exceptional hiking opportunities and picturesque sightseeing experiences with the likes of the Blyde River Canyon, Bourkes Luck Potholes, Sabi Sabi, Londolozi and Kruger Park Game Reserves.
The best of the best in the North West Province
Take a leisurely drive to the Hartbeespoort region and visit the markets, or take a trip up the cable-way and have lunch at the top of the Magaliesburg mountain range. Visit the De Wildt Cheetah sanctuary, or drive a little further and take a hike at Mountain Sanctuary Park. If you can’t make it to the beach this December, head over to the Lost City at Sun City and spend a day frolicking in the waves and relaxing under the hot North West Province sun.
There is so much to do, no matter where you are in South Africa. All it takes is a little research, and you and the family could have the best holiday ever. Hopefully these ideas have gotten you started, so get out there this holiday with the family and see what you can find.
