Catch Up Over a Coffee – Where To Meet in Cape Town

Cape Town’s coffee culture is one of the best in the world, with artisanal producers and quirky little cafes dotted all over the city. If you’re looking for a meeting spot with a great vibe and even better coffee, here are our top choices in the Mother City.

Truth Coffee – City Bowl

Named the ‘World’s Best Coffee Shop” by The Guardian in 2015 and The Telegraph in 2016, it’s easy to see why Truth is so popular with locals and tourists alike. The floor to ceiling steampunk-inspired décor, filled with old-school machinery and metal tubing, is quirky and fun, and it makes for a trendy and exciting spot to catch up with people while you’re in the city centre. Day in and day out, Truth produces coffee that can rival the best in the world. If you’re peckish, they do a small selection of tasty brunches and lunches too. It’s a no brainer really; how often do you get to go anywhere with the title ‘the best in the world?’

Bootlegger Coffee Company - Multiple

Bootlegger has somehow become the holy grail of coffee shops. On one hand, it’s expanded its network enough that you can easily find a place to grab a coffee with a friend almost wherever you are in the Mother City. At the same time, Bootlegger’s many branches haven’t detracted at all from the authentic and artisanal experience. It also happens to be a great place to sit and work, thanks to reliable and free WiFi! The Sea Point and Kalk Bay locations are some of our favourites but really, you can’t go wrong with any of them – and that’s the beauty of it. So next time you want to meet up with an old friend in their neighbourhood, pick up the phone and suggest a dark-roasted blend at their nearest Bootleggers.

Company’s Garden Coffee Shop – City Bowl

Let’s face it: as fabulous as the Cape Town city centre is, sometimes you just want a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle. The coffee shop at the Company’s Garden heritage site is the perfect place to do just that. Grab a friend or loved one and spend an hour or two unwinding and giving your undivided attention to your coffee companion. All we can say is that you should be sure to bring along someone you really like. This isn’t a rushed grab-and-go spot, it’s a botanical garden where you want to take your time, enjoy the tranquil surroundings, listen to birds chirp and savour good coffee and good company. It’s worth nothing that they also offer a good selection of herbal and fruit teas.

Hang Ten Café – Muizenberg

For a relaxed weekend chat over a good cuppa and a sea breeze, it doesn’t get any better than Hang Ten Café. Located above the iconic Gary’s Surf School, Hang Ten Café has a definite surfing theme to it – it’s light, bright, and colourful with loads of space and a view to die for. Grab a seat by the window and sip on a fresh cup of coffee and a homemade crepe while you wile away a morning catching up with a friend. You’ll feel like everything is right with the world once you’re done!
