Nestled on the southern end of Tumon Bay opposite Two Lovers Point is where you’ll find one of Guam’s most popular beaches, Ypao Beach Park. Popular by Guamanian terms means you’re still unlikely to find more than a few dozen people there on most days of the week so don’t worry about not finding your own patch of sand!

Some other things you’ll definitely find at Ypao Beach Park are clear coral-filled blue water, shallow waters perfect for swimmers of all ages and ample snorkelling opportunities. Now officially named Governor Joseph Flores Beach Park after the first Chamorro to be Governor of Guam, the park is still known by locals as Ypao Beach Park so expect a few blank stares if you refer to it by it’s official name.

Popular with locals and tourists alike, it’s the local feel that gives Ypao Beach Park much of its charm and on any day of the week you’ll find Guamanians walking on the paths, having a barbeque and enjoying the shaded picnic tables.

One of the largest public parks in Guam, Ypao Beach Park is at it’s busiest when parties and concerts take place in the park’s amphitheatre. It’s an easy getaway if the activities aren’t to your taste or don’t suit the pace of your holiday as just across the street you’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants including Tower of London Pub, while for a meal, Proa is famous for their ribs. Quieter beaches can be found too close by. Take the cliff-side trail north to Faifa’i Beach and an almost private beach can be yours.
