The Wings over the Rockies Air and Space Museum is Colorado’s official air and space museum.  Located at the former Lowry U.S. Air Force Base in Denver, the museum works to promote the interest in and study of aviation and space and inspire visitors through its many exhibits, forums and programs.

The museum features a 150,000 square foot former air force hanger where a vast collection of military aircraft and space vehicles are on display including a rare B-18A Bolo and even a life size model of an X-Wing fighter as shown in the Star Wars films.  The Space and Rocketry Exhibits area features informational displays and models of futuristic and historic missiles and spacecraft.  A proposed space station module named Freedom is on exhibit.  The space station concept was put forward as an American only alternative before the International Space Station was agreed upon between the U.S., Russia and the European Union.

The museum also acts as an educational resource and has many interesting programs for students and educators interested in math, science, aviation or space exploration.  The Wings Aerospace Science Program is a teacher developed curriculum for the purpose of motivating kids to gain an interest in math from an aviation perspective.  School programs for students include aviation and flight tours and hands on activities in simulators as well as air and space camps.

Wings over the Rockies is located just east of Downtown Denver in Lowry.  From I-25 take the exit onto 6th Avenue and head east.  Follow 6th Avenue until the road ends at Great Lawn Park and turn right on Uinta Way.  Make a right on East 1st Avenue and a left on N. Spruce Street.  This becomes East Academy Blvd and the museum is located on the right.
