The Molly Brown House is a museum dedicated to the legendary Margaret ‘Molly’ Brown.  Having survived the sinking of Titanic in 1912 she went on to become one of the most famous personalities in the nation, even earning the nickname “the unsinkable Molly Brown” for her heroic efforts in saving passengers on the ill fated ship.  Brown went on to become a well known activist for workers and women’s rights.

The beautiful and stately brownstone house in Downtown Denver was built in 1889 in the Queen Anne style.  Completely restored to its late 1890’s appearance, the home offers an insightful look into the life and times of this fascinating woman as well as giving visitors a glimpse of what life was like in Denver’s Victorian era.   In 1972 the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Located in what was then the prestigious Capital Hill area of Denver, the house belonged to Molly and her husband from 1894 until her death in 1932.  When the city of Denver began its urban renewal programs in the 1960’s many of the lavish and historic homes and buildings in the surrounding area were demolished.  In 1970 the Brown house was also due for demolition when concerned citizens formed the Historic Denver Inc. group.  Through their media and public outreach programmes and fund raising efforts the group was able to purchase the house and complete the detailed restoration of this now historic treasure.

Guided tours of this historic home begin every 30 minutes and run approximately 45 minutes.  There is also a museum store with many interesting gifts and memorabilia, including Titanic related souvenirs.  Located in Downtown Denver, the home and museum is located one block south of East Colfax Avenue.  Turn south onto Pennsylvania Street where the house is situated between East 13th Ave and East 14th Avenue.  Street parking is available as well as a public car park at the corner of 13th Avenue and Logan Street.
