Situated in a busy corner of Jim Jim Creek is Yellow Water Billabong – Kakadu’s most famous wetland, which comes to life at sunrise and sunset. Home to an astonishing abundance of wildlife, no doubt you’ll want to get up close and personal with all of the animal action. There are few better ways to do so than by taking a 90- or 120-minute guided cruise.

Photo opportunities are plentiful during a Yellow Water Cruise as you meander through an area home to about one third of Australia’s bird species. This includes all manner of ducks and geese as well as multiple species of kingfisher. Bird-watchers are in for a treat, as are reptile enthusiasts. A smiling crocodile is never far from sight during the cruise, but don't forget to keep an eye out too for the three Bs: buffalo, brumbies and brolgas.

To cruise at sunrise or sunset?

With tours running throughout the day, many visitors have trouble deciding when to take the Yellow Water Cruise. While the answer is generally "sunrise or sunset”, it could also be “both”! Different times of the day showcase a disinct array of wildlife, as do the changing seasons. For this reason, many visitors return to Kakadu just so they can experience the cruise in both the wet and dry seasons.

Tours departing daily from Cooinda Lodge Kakadu, a township 55-kilometres from Jabiru. Speak to your Flight Centre consultant about booking a Yellow Water Cruise or, for even better value, include it in your Northern Territory holiday package.
