The Central Station Rainforest is an area of natural beauty and fresh water streams located near the historic logging area referred to as Central Station. A must-see stop for any Fraser Island visitor, the site situated in The Great Sandy National Park has some of the island’s best camping and walking trails.

As early as the 1860’s logging took place on Fraser Island and Central Station was the logging camp used when that industry flourished here. There are still some cottages to be seen from those days and the facilities are now used as an informational station. The campground and picnic area make for a relaxing, inviting area from where to enjoy the nearby sites.

The large fenced campground area is along the Fraser Island Great Walk making it an accessible base from which to see many other island wonders. One of the closest sites is the inviting boardwalk circuit which introduces visitors to the lush rainforest and the fresh crystal clear waters of Wanggoolba Creek.

Access to Central Station is by 4WD only. Tracks are clearly marked with posted signs along the way. The campground at Central Station has basic facilities including showers (coin operated), toilet facilities, picnic tables, access for 4WD camping vehicles and a site able to accommodate up to 44 tents. Gas ovens are recommended as campfires and generators are not permitted. Advance bookings are required for campsites.
