One of the most scenic journeys in Queensland is the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway ride between Cairns and the quaint hippy-chic village of Kuranda. Enjoy the grand vistas of the Far North and get a bird’s eye view of one of Australia’s most beautiful World Heritage listed rainforests, as you look down from the cabin of your cable car on a leisurely journey filled with magnificent views.

With a cableway panning over seven-kilometres in length, the journey includes several scenic stops along the rainforest path before reaching the end of the line at the lovely tourist town of Kuranda. The Skyrail Cableway begins at the Caravonica Skyrail Terminal located just 15 minutes from Cairns CBD. From here, the gondola begins its trek up the mountain for the 90-minute journey.

Stretch your legs with a rainforest walk

Stop at the two stations mid-way through the trip to enjoy the boardwalk trails through the rainforest canopy and witness spectacular views of the Barron Gorge. After your scenic pit stop, continue your ride through the mountains and over Barron River before arriving in Kuranda, a quiet bohemian town filled with quirky souvenir shops and health-conscious restaurants.

The Caravonica Terminal just outside Cairns is located on the corner of the Cook Highway and Cairns Western Arterial Road, approximately 15 minutes from the city. Skyrail offers coach transfers to and from hotels throughout Cairns, the northern beaches and even Port Douglas,
