About Avalon Airport (AVV)

Located approximately 55km from the heart of Melbourne and 20km from Geelong, Avalon Airport is well-positioned and specialises in low-cost carriers. From Avalon Airport, travellers can catch direct flights to cities across Australia, including Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, as well as international hot spots like Bali with Jetstar.

Check-in

Travellers will find self-service check-in kiosks for both domestic and international departures at Avalon Airport. Make sure you confirm check-in times and terminals with your airline, as each may have different requirements, and allow for plenty of time at the airport before your flight. Keep in mind, it may be possible to check in for your flights online in advance via your airline’s website or app, which can be an easy way to save time at the airport on the day of travel.

Baggage

Baggage allowances vary by airline and ticket class, so it’s important to confirm what’s included with your flight booking to avoid any surprises at bag drop. For more specific information on baggage limits, such as the size, weight and number of bags included in your airfare, check with your airline or ask your Travel Expert for assistance.

If you’re driving to Avalon Airport, it’ll take you about 25 minutes from Geelong and 50 minutes from Melbourne (if traffic’s on your side!). Both short-term and long-term (longer than one week) airport parking options are available, and we’d recommend booking online in advance to secure your parking space and access discounted rates.

Avalon Airport is a convenient starting point (Torquay is only 30 minutes from the airport) and a number of car rental companies, including AVIS, Budget, Hertz and Sixt, are available in the Arrivals Hall. Talk to your Travel Expert about organising car hire for your trip or book it yourself online before you leave.

A taxi rank is located right outside Avalon Airport with several services available, including 13cabs, Black & White Cabs and Geelong Taxi Network. Rideshare pick-up zones can also be found in the Two-Minute Drop-Off Zone, just across the road from the main airport building.

As far as convenience goes, it’s hard to beat the SkyBus airport transfers. The Avalon City Express runs between the airport and Melbourne CBD, stopping in Werribee on the way, and passengers can purchase a ticket either online, via the SkyBus app or at one of the ticket kiosks in the airport. Visit the SkyBus website for up-to-date information on timetables and fares.

Avalon Airport operates out of two terminals – a Domestic Terminal and an International Terminal. However, both terminals are located within the same main airport building, so you won’t have to worry about complicated terminal transfers at Melbourne Avalon Airport.
