Economy

Economy passengers flying with JAL enjoy an increased seat pitch of up to 34 inches, with personal AC power outlets and USB port at each seat. The in-flight entertainment system ‘New Sky Entertainment JAL Mooove’ can be accessed on 10.6 inch personal on-demand screens, giving passengers access to a vast library of movies, TV shows, audio and games. A multi-course hot meal is served on all international flights, with complimentary mineral water and a range of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Light snacks are also available throughout the journey. Complimentary slippers and a an amenity kit with dental care items and earplugs is also available on many routes.

Premium Economy

JAL Sky Premium cabins feature personal gooseneck lamps, 10 cm between seats, a 42-inch seat pitch, a personal power supply, privacy dividing screens, and a 12-inch touch screen monitor to enjoy the on-demand entertainment system. Some aircraft feature the award-winning Skyshell Seat, offering 20% more legroom than regular Economy seating, located in a separate cabin from Economy. The multi-course hot meal menu is served up with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and should hunger strike en-route, tasty snacks such as noodle soup are also available. Premium Economy passengers can enjoy the ‘New Sky Entertainment JAL Mooove’ system with large, comfortable, noise cancelling headphones. A selection of magazines and newspapers and a Business Class amenities kit is also available.

Business Class

JAL Business Class seating varies between aircraft, from the award-winning Sky Suite flatline bed on the B777 and the Sky Suite II on the B767, to the Shell Flat Seat Cocoon and the reclinable Skyluxe seat. Seat pitch also varies from between 38 inches up to a generous 74 inches on the Boeing 767-300ER. Japan Airlines’ flying restaurant JAL BEDD serves up multi-course gourmet delights for Business Class passengers, with excellent Japanese cuisine as well as western style choices. Chocolates, refreshments and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are also available. ‘New Sky Entertainment JAL Mooove’ offers a large range of in-flight movies, TV shows, games and audio, available on wide on-demand personal screens with comfortable noise cancelling headphones. A range of magazines and newspapers is also available, along with an amenity kit, loungewear cardigan (on selected flights), and a portable air massager.

First Class

Travel in style and privacy with your own private compartment when you fly First Class with JAL. The wide leather chair folds flat into a comfortable flat bed offering ample personal space and a retractable privacy partition. Enjoy a range of movies, TV, music and games from JAL’s New Sky Entertainment JAL Mooove system on the personal 23-inch screen, or catch up on some work or light reading on the wide table. Each First Class suite features a wood grain interior, with plenty of storage space for personal items. First Class also means gourmet restaurant style food choices, with flavours from around the world as well as Japanese specialities designed by highly skilled chefs. A range of wines and champagnes, plus a selection of Sake and Shochu accompany dining choices. Other perks of travelling First Class include a luxury LOEWE amenities kit, comfortable loungewear, and a portable air massager on certain routes.

 

Carry-on

All JAL passengers may bring one piece of carry-on luggage with a maximum weight of 10kg, and maximum dimensions of 55cm x40cm x 25cm and a maximum sum of dimensions of 115cm.

Checked Baggage

Economy and Premium Economy travellers may bring 2 pieces of checked luggage with a maximum weight of 23kg per piece. For First and Business Class guests, this increases to 3 pieces with a maximum weight of 32kg per piece. The total linear dimensions for a single piece of checked in luggage are a maximum of 203cm.

Bulky Items

Passengers wishing to travel with surfboards under 120cm in length may bring them as checked luggage for a set fee. Any surfboard that exceeds this length must be pre-arranged with JAL. All other sporting equipment may travel as part of passengers’ free baggage allowance, with standard excess baggage fees applied if weight or size dimensions are exceeded.

Infant Baggage

Infants travelling on a parents lap are entitled to one piece of checked luggage with the same maximum dimensions and weight as the baggage allowance of the accompanying adult. A collapsible stroller, carrying basket and car seat may also be accepted as free infant baggage allowance.

Restricted or Dangerous Goods

For safety reasons, several items are banned from carry-on luggage, including knives, scissors and sharp items, stun guns, bats and clubs. Liquids, gels and aerosols must be in containers of 100ml or less, carried in a transparent, resealable plastic bag with a 1l capacity, with a maximum allowance of one bag per passenger. Liquids from Duty Free purchased after security screening, may be exempt from this rule. Items that are not allowed in checked luggage or carry-on luggage include gases, lithium and wet cell batteries, explosives and ammunitions, dangerous liquids such as paint, bleach and poisons, heat producing items, and matches and lighters.

 

Web, mobile, kiosk or counter

Checking in for your JAL flight couldn’t be easier, with a range of different check-in options available from checking yourself in on your mobile days before you fly, to visiting the airport counter for full-service check-in.

Web Check-in

If you have internet access, JAL’s ‘QuiC’ web check-in is available from 72 hours prior to travel, right up to 1 hour prior to scheduled departure. Passengers are able to choose their preferred seat and print their own boarding pass. Upon arrival at the airport, passengers who have checked in online can proceed straight through to security, dropping any checked baggage at the Fast Baggage counters on the way.

Mobile Check-in

Fast track your check-in on the go with JAL’s mobile check-in option. Available up to 72 hours ahead of your flight, check-in, book your preferred seat, and receive your mobile boarding pass that can be scanned at many international airports.

Kiosk Check-in

If you aren’t able to check-in online or via your mobile device prior to arrival at the airport, many international airports have self-serve check-in kiosks where you’ll be able to check in for your JAL flight. This option allows you to scan your passport, pick your seat, notify checked baggage amounts, check-in and print your boarding pass without having to queue up at the check-in counter.

At home

  • Ensure you know what time your flight leaves, and how long it will take you to get to the airport
  • Check you have packed everything you need after referring to our expert packing guide
  • Check-in online from up to 72 hours prior to travel, and print your boarding pass

 

Getting there

  • Be at the airport 2-3 hours prior to travel if you haven’t already checked in online
  • If you’ve checked in online arrive at least an hour before your flight is due to leave

 

At the airport

  • Check in at a self-serve kiosk or at the airline check-in counter if you’ve not checked in online
  • If you have checked in online, drop any check-in bags at bag drop counter and make your way through security and passport control
  • Find out what number gate your plane is leaving from
  • Arrive at boarding gate at least 30 minutes prior to departure time

 

JAL Airport Lounges

Unwind and relax before boarding your international JAL flight at one of the airline’s exclusive airport lounges at Tokyo’s Narita Airport. JAL’s First Class Lounge is a luxury space where First Class passengers and JMB Diamond and JCB Premier members may enjoy a range of beverages and refreshments, as well as hot showers, TV, magazines and newspapers, and relaxing massage chairs. The Sakura Lounge is available for entry to JMB Diamond, JCG Premier, JMB Sapphire and JAL Global Club members, as well as First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and some Economy fare passengers. Facilities in the Satellite Building Sakura Lounge include a buffet of sushi, cakes, sandwiches and pastries, and an extensive hot meal buffet is available in the Main Building Sakura Lounge. JAL operate First Class and Sakura Lounges at most of their main Japanese hubs, with access to American Airlines shared lounges also available at many destinations.

JAL’s Mileage Bank loyalty program rewards frequent flyers with the airline. Members register with the scheme and earn ‘Mileage’ points each time they fly, as well as with a number of partner hotels and entertainment providers. Mileage can be redeemed for award flights, upgrades, and coupons for in-flight and in-hotel purchases.

Status Levels

Crystal

Crystal membership is achieved after accrual of 30,000 FLY ON points, or completion of 30 flights. Crystal members benefit from Mile-Up bonus points on JAL Group flights, including American Airlines, US Airways or British Airways flights. Additional perks include priority check-in at Business Class counters, extra checked baggage allowance, and priority boarding.

Sapphire

When a member has earned 50,000 FLY On points or travelled on 50 eligible flights, Sapphire status is achieved. A 100% Mile-Up bonus is available on JAL and partner flights, along with additional perks of priority baggage handling, priority standby, and JAL and oneworld alliance member Lounge access.

JGC Premier

JAL Global Club Members who have accrued 80,000 FLY ON points, or have boarded at least 80 flights. Extra benefits include one piece up to 32kg of extra checked baggage allowance, priority boarding on JAL and oneworld Alliance flights, and fast security lane access. First Class Lounge access is also included in membership.

Diamond

For the ultimate JAL access and privileges, Diamond JMB Membership is available to frequent flyers that accrue 100,000 FLY ON points or travel on at least 120 eligible flights. Up to 130% Mile-Up bonus is available to Diamond members travelling on JAL or partner airlines. Lounge access is available to Diamond Members along with a travelling companion at JAL First Class Lounges and oneworld Alliance Member Airline Lounges worldwide.
