This ultra-modern skyscraper in downtown Osaka is notable for its distinctive appearance – like a giant Transformer preparing to reshape itself and move about the streets as one giant moving steel and glass monolith.

Adventure fantasies aside, this unique looking building is one of Osaka’s most memorable structures as well as being the city’s 12th tallest.  It consists of two twin towers that are joined at the top by bridges where escalators and a rooftop atrium connect the two buildings at over 160 metres in the air.

While mostly an office tower, the main attraction at the Umeda Sky Building is its 39th floor rooftop observation deck where the Floating Garden Observatory is located.  This intriguing perch offers a wonderful view of the city and a close up look at a most architecturally interesting building.  For an interesting contrast, proceed underground to the basement floors of the building where a replica of an historic Japanese street can be seen.

The closest rail link is the Osaka City Station and the Umeda Station.  As it is still a fair walk from these stations a taxi is recommended.
