If you are one for festival life, and not afraid of a bit of sand, the ultimate experience to aim for this month is Burning Man, held in the Nevada desert in the USA. Tens of thousands of people gather to create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression and self-reliance. Nevada is also home to a permanent metropolis of a very different kind – Las Vegas. The home of some of the world’s best hotels, casinos and live music venues, it’s definitely worth a visit, but remember that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!

In Spain a slightly messier type of gathering takes place in Valencia, a culturally-fascinating place and the home of paella. Since 1945 people have gathered in the last week of August to hurl tomatoes at each other. La Tomatina started as an angry dispute between locals, but has evolved to become an internationally recognised cultural event. The acidity of the tomatoes also gives the city streets a good old clean by the time it’s all over.

Take some time to explore the rest of Spain while you’re there. The Iberian coastline is still warm and sunny in August, and popular tourist spots like Lloret de Mar are brimming with visitors from around Europe. Barcelona, with an abundance of artistic, historical, cultural and gastronomic wonders, is just a short train ride away.
For superb, sun-kissed beaches, ancient ruins and breath-taking art, the Mediterranean is waiting to welcome you and treat you to a feast of food, cultural history and beauty as you unwind and enjoy spectacular nature and views.

Belgium is one of the oldest hosts of the Formula One Grand Prix. The Belgian track is and incredible 14, 9 kilometres long and well known for being extremely dangerous. This iconic race way is nestled in the town of Spa which is surrounded by picturesque woods. When visiting Belgium, be prepared to enjoy a variety of delectable comfort foods like waffles and chocolates.
