SA passport the second most powerful in Africa
The South African passport has been ranked the second most powerful in Africa, according to the latest edition of the Passport Index.
The index, launched by Arton Capital, a global financial advisory firm specialising in international residency and second citizenship solutions, shows the world’s most and least powerful passports based on visa-free or visa-on-arrival access afforded to passport-holders.
According to the index, the Mauritian passport is ranked as the most powerful in Africa with access to 116 countries. Ranked 87th on the world list, South Africa has access to 90 countries: 58 visa-free and 32 with visa on arrival.
South African passports offer visa-free travel to most SADC countries, as well as almost all South American nations.
