Home Affairs to halt passport applications
ID and passport services at certain Home Affairs offices will be disabled between November 27 and December 2 as the Department’s new Live Capture System is upgraded. This was announced by Director-General Mkuseli Apleni on Friday, November 20.
“This applies to the 140 Home Affairs offices with the Live Capture System,” Mkuseli said. “These are the offices whose services include the issuing of Smart ID cards. This list of offices is on the DHA website www.dha.gov.za”
According to Mkuseli, the upgrading of the system will allow people to apply for documents online in their homes or offices. It will also enhance the re-enrolment process by removing the need to recapture fingerprints within a specific period of re-applications.
Mkuseli said there were currently 51 946 passports ready to be collected. “We urge applicants whose documents are ready for collection to please collect them before November 27.”
