All clear after report of shots fired at JFK
There is a substantial police presence at New York’s JFK airport after reports that shots had been fired inside Terminal 8 on Sunday night (August 14). Police and various specialist response teams conducted a search after locking down the airport and evacuating travellers.
Weather conditions have also caused flight disruptions to Newark airport.
Travellers are advised to contact their carriers to determine flight status before going to the airport.
In a statement, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said preliminary investigations did not indicate that shots had actually been fired at the airport. “There are no injuries and no gun shells or other evidence of shots fired have been found at this time,” the statement read.
The investigation is ongoing.
