We’re not ready to hang up our travelling shoes either, so we made a list of quickies (short but awesome getaways) that you can take before heading back to the grind. You’ve spent enough time with cousins you hardly know, aunties that ask too many questions and a caravan that leans ever so slightly to the left. It’s time for a beach adventure of your own! You don’t need a visa, just a passport, your beach gear, and some willing friends to make this holiday unforgettable.
We’ve narrowed it down to three idyllic island holidays:
- Phuket holiday
A fantastic destination in the land of smiles, Phuket is a collection of islands with a mild climate that makes it a year round travel destination. Warm, tropical nights are spent with friends sharing an ice cold Singha or a coconut cocktail. Days on the beach turn into snorkelling adventures or island hopping escapades.
Thai food is incredible and remarkably un-dodgy, so don’t be afraid to try the street food. Street vendors sell fresh fruit on ice, braaied mealies (yes, they can braai!), or delicious pad thai for next to nothing. Of course there are insects on sticks, weird sea creatures and the odd grilled frog, but you can stick to what you know. If you see locals supporting a vendor, buy from him rather than the one with the shorter que. Your stomach will thank you later.
- Holiday in Zanzibar
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing getaway or an adrenalin pumping adventure, you’ll find your happy place in Zanzibar. Swim with sea turtles, explore the jungle, and meander through narrow alleys to discover markets and mosques in Stone Town.
Food on the Spice Island is flavourful and fragrant. Balmy evenings, ice cold Tuskers or fresh fruit cocktails, and plates piled high with fresh sea food; let the good times roll!
- Mauritius breakaway
Crystal clear waters, colourful reefs teaming with tropical fish, and stretches of palm fringed beaches to perfectly frame your new profile pic selfie. #adventure
A melting pot of cultures and flavours, the food brings together the best of French, African, Chinese and Indian cuisines. Visit the bazaars around the island and the waterfront in Port Louis. Take a trip to Ile aux Cerfs for a round of golf or snorkel in the turquoise water. You’ve never seen water this clear – that’s for sure! Then perhaps it’s time for a quiet afternoon before happy hour?
