Winning the gift of travel – Flight Centre competition winners share their stories
Travel can be a dream come true, and for three fortunate Flight Centre competition winners this dream has become a reality.
Flight Centre recently ran the Ticket To Your Dream competition asking individuals to nominate a friend or family member who they thought most deserved to win the trip of a lifetime. From 1,500 entries, three winners were chosen.
Two of the winners tell us what the surprise and the gift of travel means to them:
Return tickets to London
Michelle Chamier from Hillcrest nominated her friend Wendy Neilan in the competition. Wendy won two return tickets to London on Virgin Atlantic with visas included. Wendy plans to travel with her daughter to visit her son in the UK in June. She has not been to the UK in 15 years.
“In February of this year, it will be two years ago since I last saw my son,” says Wendy.
“His father had decided to settle back in the UK, and it was decided that my son would go with him. My son has special educational needs, and the support and options for him in the UK seemed a lot more accessible than it was for us here. It was the hardest decision I have had to make as a parent, to let him go at 16 years old,” says Wendy.
“I was desperate to visit for his 18th birthday this year, but I had no idea how I would get there. This was truly God answering my prayers!”
Wendy is even happier that her daughter will get to see her brother and father again.
“The fact that I won two tickets was even more amazing because my daughter misses her brother and Dad terribly. This will be her first overseas adventure.”
“I just feel so blessed both for the prize and for Michelle. We have been friends for most of our lives and have been there for each other through everything. I couldn’t ask for a better friend than her.
“Big thanks to Michelle and Flight Centre for the effort they went to, to make this reveal and trip even more special. We are so excited to take this trip!”
Travel vouchers to the value of R25,000
Tracy Marais from Mossel Bay, nominated by her mom Desre, won Flight Centre travel vouchers to the value of R25,000. The prize was a complete surprise for Tracy.
“It was such an exciting moment when Tracy won such an enormous amount of money in travel vouchers,” says Desre. “The only holiday Tracy has ever had was when her late husband and the children visited us in our home in Mossel Bay for ten days in 2010.”
“I nominated Tracy for the loving, kind person she is. She has had a difficult life yet is always the very first person to offer help of any kind when people are in need.” Desre adds that, as a single mother bringing up two children alone, Tracy has had to make many sacrifices.
Desre says that Tracy is “overjoyed about her R25,000 travel vouchers from Flight Centre. She and the kids are ecstatic about the idea of a holiday to a new and exciting place. Tracy says she is most excited about being able to order food and a drink without making the meal herself!”
Tracy is still deciding on how she will use the vouchers, but she is thinking of going on a cruise with her mother, Desre.
“On behalf of Tracy and myself, we would like to thank Flight Centre and everyone involved for this opportunity of a lifetime. To go on a holiday of our choice is such a gift.”
