We can only send our condolences to those who will never experience Zanzibar. Exquisite ocean views, swaying palms, a city shrouded in history and a vibey night life - this is the beach holiday you’ve been waiting for.
Head to Zanzibar for your next adventure and you won’t be disappointed. Even if you just go for the ivory beaches and breath-taking sunsets, you’ll feel like you’ve tasted paradise. For the best beach experience, head to the northern coasts of Nungwi and Kendwa. Here, you can shimmy and shake to the sounds of local African beats until the early hours, but know that you might just be challenged to a dance battle by one of the locals.
A good party is never far away in Zanzibar and you can find one along almost every beach. Simply ask at your hotel and they should be able to direct you to the closest party spot. Nungwi is by far the most vibrant hangout with most of the local haunts right near the beach. Expect good music, tasty food and delicious cocktails served by a dreadlocked barman at Gerry’s Bar.
Africa House is a popular hotel in Stone Town that seconds as the best place to watch the sun go down over the Indian Ocean. Be sure to drop by and exchange travel stories over a drink with fellow travellers, friendly locals and ex-pats. Stone Town is home to a number of popular restaurants, bars and clubs so you‘ll have a few to choose from. If you should get tired of the Reggae music and cheap beer (which we doubt), there are food markets almost every night where you can sample affordable and delicious delicacies. Be sure to taste the seafood, which is freshly caught and barbecued in front of you.
In terms of fun in the sun, Zanzibar has plenty to offer even the pickiest of travellers. When you’ve exhausted all angles of your beachfront selfie, why not take a walking tour of Stone Town. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Centre and is steeped in local history, culture and architectural gems.
If you’ve dreamt about swimming with dolphins, we suggest you try Zanzibar’s most popular boat trip, Safari Blue. You’ll sail from the south coast on a traditional dhow to Menai Bay where you can see and swim with these amazing creatures. You’ll also have a chance to explore the reefs before sitting down to a mouth-watering buffet of fresh lobster, fish, calamari, chicken and vegetables.
Snorkelling, diving, kite-surfing and all other manner of water sport can be found here in the clear waters surrounding Zanzibar. So be sure to ask around for the best spots. Thanks to the trade winds, Zanzibar is probably one of the best places for kite-surfing so don’t miss out.
