Top Things To Do in Cape Town

3 July 2017

Whether you’re in search of a romantic weekend escape, fun-filled family holiday or a good time out with your besties, there’s something for everyone in cosmopolitan Cape Town. We’ve put together just a few of the amazing experiences to add to your to-do list during your holiday in the Mother City.

Out and About

The city of Cape Town is packed with eclectic shops, lively markets, vibey bars and hidden hang outs to explore. In the CBD, you can’t throw a cocktail stick without hitting a gin bar, brewery or pub. Stroll down Bree Street for a bite at some of the city’s trendiest restaurants or soak up the urban vibe on Long. For something a little left of centre, head to Woodstock where organic markets, designer crafts and artsy types set the scene. Then swing by Woodstock Brewery for a crisp craft beer or two. Take the train to quirky Kalk Bay for vintage shopping and fresh mussels. And splash out on some designer duds at the V&A Waterfront while the kids tuck into an ice cream cone on the docks.

Explore the great outdoors

Grab your trail shoes and get ready to explore the myriad mountains, hills, hiking paths and natural beauty that Cape Town has to offer. It goes without saying that a trip up iconic Table Mountain is a must. Choose from plenty of steep to moderate routes up to the top. Or take it easy on the cable car. Hiking Lion’s Head under a full moon is a truly enchanting experience. Get up there before sunset and watch the glittering city lights come to life. For something a little more laid back, catch a sunset concert at the beautiful Kirstenbosch Gardens or picnic at the lush Green Point Urban Park.

Go big at the beach

Beach bunnies won’t be disappointed by the awesome seaside options around the city. Head to the stylish Blue Flag Beach of Camps Bay where the hottest bods and coolest locals come out to play. Stroll along the scenic Sea Point Promenade or speed things up on a bike or rollerblades. Next up, tee off at the super fun putt putt course nearby. Feeling energetic? Families and water sports enthusiasts should definitely check out Muizenberg. Grab a kayak and explore the waters or take a surf lesson and master the waves. Boulder’s Beach is a more secluded spot to catch some rays, build sand castles and spot waddling penguins (don’t forget to check under your car before driving off!). For a touch of romance, head to Llandudno and enjoy some sundowners on the rocks.

"Unwined" on a whistle-stop wine tour

If you’re into wine, you’re in for a treat! Why settle for just one glass when you can go wine tasting and try them all? Head to Franschhoek for the finest vintages with French flair. Hop on the Franschhoek Wine Tram for a whistle-stop tour of the best wine farms and restaurants. Nearby Stellenbosch is also well worth a visit for wine connoisseurs. Want something a little closer to the city? Grab a glass of chardonnay at Groot Constantia or enjoy the view at beautiful Beau Constantia overlooking False Bay. Cheers!
