Thailand's most romantic restaurants

Whether you’re on honeymoon, celebrating your anniversary or a special occasion, or simply keen to spend a magical evening dining on mouth-watering food in a spectacular setting with the person that you love – Thailand is the place to do it. Here, you can choose between some of the world’s most acclaimed fine-dining restaurants or discover intimate little local eateries, or perhaps even secluded picnic spots tucked away alongside a beautiful waterfall or private stretch of beach – there is truly something to suit every couple.

The most romantic rooftop restaurants

While there are some impressive rooftop restaurants in various locations throughout Thailand, it’s in Bangkok where rooftop dining is taken to a whole new level.

Banyan Tree’s Vertigo and Moon Bar probably has the best view in the city. Situated on the 61st floor with an expanse of glittering lights as far as the eye can see below, it is impossible to imagine a more magical dinner location. Known for its excellent seafood and steaks, the restaurant and bar also serves up a range of signature cocktails.

Sirocco is another impressive rooftop restaurant – in fact, it’s got the honour of being named the highest al-fresco restaurant in the world, situated at the lofty heights of the 63rd floor. The view here is very different to Vertigo as Sirocco is located near the river, creating a completely different atmosphere. Mediterranean fare is on the menu here, along with a lengthy wine list.

The most intimate restaurants in Thailand

Not only is it one of the most romantic restaurants imaginable, Issaya Siamese Club in Bangkok is also ranked in 19th place in terms of the best restaurants in Asia. With a flourishing garden, private tables are scattered throughout the lush, lantern-lit surroundings. The food is a combination of traditional Thai delicacies cooked in fresh, modern ways and signature dishes include Jasmine Flower Flan and Mussuman Curry Lamb Shank.

Or how about dinner with your feet in the sand and the sound of gentle waves lapping against the shore? Phuket, Koh Samui and Ko Phangan have hundreds of fantastic beach restaurants, but The Grotto Restaurant at Rayavadee Resort is particularly special, as tables are scattered throughout a limestone cave on Phranang Beach.

Romance on the water

Floating restaurants are another romantic option for couples looking for a completely different dining experience. Dinner cruises along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok are widely available throughout Bangkok, but if you’re seeking something really special, you should choose wisely and opt for one of the smaller boats, like LoyNava or Manohra Dinner Cruise.

Another completely unique option is dinner on board a floating restaurant along the east coast of Phuket, also known as ‘krachang’. Hop onto a longtail boat at Laem Min Pier and set out to the restaurants where the seafood is kept alive in nets alongside the restaurants and diners can point out what they’d like to eat. Oysters are a must for a romantic dinner, served with a hint of chilli, lime and garlic – and afterwards, sit back and enjoy the views of the night sky on the boat ride back to the mainland.
