New York for everyone

18 December 2012

New York City is a mecca of diversity.  If you’re in one of the boroughs from Queens to Staten Island it can feel like you’re in a completely different city altogether.  Perhaps this is why people with such a wide range of interests are drawn here; because there is quite simply something for everyone.  Let’s check out what to do in NYC for the artistic type, the fashionista and the nature lover.

New York for the Artist

The birthplace and city of inspiration for so many artists, New York is a fabulous destination for any art lover.  Spend a day at the Metropolitan Museum or the Museum of Modern Art but be sure to leave some time for the Guggenheim.  Revered for its meticulously curated collection of over 7,000 pieces of art, the Guggenheim represents the best of some of the world’s most famous artists.  Go on an Andy Warhol tour.  Walk the streets of the city and uncover famous factory locations.  At night head to the funky neighbourhood of Harlem and check out the cool jazz clubs.

For the Fashionista

If you’re a clothes lover, New York is not a ‘What should I do’ kind of place but rather ‘Where should I start!?’  With every major designer having a presence here it can seem overwhelming.  First, hit the classics like Bloomingdales on Madison Ave and Bergdorf Goodman and Saks on 5th Avenue in Manhatten.  Be sure to hit mod style-maker Henri Bendel and the 5-storey Macy’s just to make sure you don’t miss anything.  For those looking for over the top glamour at great prices, Century 21 has it.  With up to 40% off labels like Gucci and Helmet Lang, there’s never been a better spot to snag designer on a deal.

For the Nature Lover

Autumn in the Central Park Central Park | New York

You haven’t experienced NYC until you have been to Central Park.  Do the Central Park Circuit or just go for a nice walk or bike ride.   If you like being near the water, Riverside Park on the Upper West Side of Manhatten is a great spot for family fun and much less busy than Central.  In Brooklyn you can visit the Marine Park Preserve. With broad expanses of salt marshes and an abundance of wildlife, it will feel like you’re not in the city at all.

New York is a place for everyone.  No matter what you like to do, your budget or where you intend to stay, there is something fantastic to discover close by.
