Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Dominating the view from each of the bridges that join Abu Dhabi Island to the mainland, this magnificent ode to the Muslim faith truly is a sight to behold! Second only in size to Mecca and Madinah in Saudi Arabia, the jaw-dropping Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the third largest of its kind in the world. Built from over 1000 tons of pure white marble, set with sparkling lapis lazuli, red agate, amethyst, mother-of-pearl and other semi-precious stones, this marvel of contemporary construction plays host to over 40 000 worshippers. Gaze up in awe at the glittering Swarovski crystal chandeliers that float above the main prayer hall. And be amazed at the expansive knotted carpet, a multi-coloured handmade masterpiece that is by far the largest in the world. This mosque is also one of the few in the region that is open to non-Muslims – don’t miss this rare opportunity to see it first-hand!
