Greek-Islands Each of the Greek islands offers travellers a unique experience

Edged with whitewashed houses and mesmerizing windmills, the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos is one of the most popular of all the Greek islands.   Spend a day exploring Mykonos Town.  From winding cobblestoned streets to quaint tavernas and romantic enclaves, this town is as historic as it is beautiful. Overlook the maze of streets from the 16th century Boni Mill or visit Little Venice with its picturesque medieval houses.   Spend endless days basking on sun-kissed local beaches.  From the upmarket shores of Psarou beach lined with hotels to the party hub of Paradise, there’s an endless array of options from which to choose. As night falls, enjoy a traditional meal at one of the oldest restaurants on the island: Antonini’s in Mykonos Town or stay on the beach at Paradise’s Guapaloca Beach Bar and dance and drink with the locals.

Ancient ruins, a volcanic caldera, historic wineries and exceptionally beautiful towns, make Santorini one of the most coveted destinations in Greece.  Spend a day wandering the labrinthyne streets of Thira.  Sift through local shops or enjoy a relaxing drink from a tavern terrace overlooking the sea.  With breathtaking views of the water below, Thira is a wonder to behold.  Or, take a tour of some of the islands vineyards and taste the traditional flavours created using the ancient winemaking tradition of Vinsanto.  Travellers looking to get a taste of ancient Greece can explore the ruins of Ancient Thira or the archeological sites of nearby Akrotiri.  For those looking to catch a magical sunset, the sleepy town of Oia is postcard perfect and a great place to dine on some of Santorini’s local delicacies.

The largest and most varied of the Greek islands, Crete has long been enchanting travellers with its lush landscapes and ancient ruins.  Discover the old world charm of Chania with its beautiful streets edged with greenery and vibrant harbour or spend a day on one of Greece’s best beaches: Falasarna.   History buffs will love exploring the ancient Minoan civilization of Knosses.  Located just southeast of the town of Iraklion, the site features a palace complex filled with archeological ruins.  As you travel around the island, take a moment to sample some of its distinct delicacies.  From local cheeses, to mouth-watering appetizers prepared in a unique way, Cretan food is some of the finest in Greece and not to be missed.

Whether you have visited the Greek islands before or are taking your first holiday to the region, there’s always something new to discover.  With endless stretches of perfect beaches, beautiful towns bursting with rich culture and loads of hidden gems from archeological sites to historic wineries, the islands are well worth a visit.
