Cape Town | Green Market Square Traditional Dancers

9 November 2011

I know for a fact that most of you have visited many places in South Africa, but have never really experienced the beauty that each province offers.  Yes, you’ve lived in Cape Town for years – but have you taken time to go to Green Market Square not to shop, but just to watch the little kids that offer a phenomenal performance?  Confused?

If there is one thing I love about Africa, it’s the fact that children of all ages are just too talented.  And the children that take a timeout during weekends to entertain shoppers at Green Market Square are a true reflection of this.

So I was in Cape Town for the weekend recently and went down to Green Market Square for my usual browse around. For the first time I actually stood there and watched these little girls perform.  I was really amazed that missed I all this when I lived there.  These girls sing in isiXhosa, wear little traditional costumes and some beaded jewelry.  A true feast for the eyes – they also have a older girl that plays the only instrument they have, an African drum.

This video should give you an idea of what you should look out for.  Enjoy! And next time you’re in the Mother City go and take a look at the talented kids we have in this beautiful country of ours.
