Bude is one of the top towns that I visited while on my trip through England. This buzzing little seaside town is located on the Western Coast of England in the county of Cornwall, an absolutely beautiful part of the country. Approach it from any side and you will drive through breathtaking sites of woodlands and stretches of English country side, with pubs and quaint little dwellings scattered all around.
Then you arrive at the charming town of Bude, one of England’s most popular holiday destinations filled with attractions and activities that will suit anyone lucky enough to walk within its borders. In a country that is usually known for quite its cold climate, Bude can be proud to boast its summer sun. In 2013 it was referred to as “the sunniest place in the UK”.
Bude was made for holidays and getaways. As you start walking through it street you immediately feel the laid-back atmosphere seeping into your bones. The town is filled with people, both locals and tourists, walking around in flip-flops and swimming trunks. Remember to visit The Shack, a small eatery with an 80’s American diner feel situated opposite the river Neet, to sample some of the best burgers in town. I wandered into this little gem by accident and ended up having one of the best meals and milkshakes I had in England and at an extremely reasonable price.
Bude is all about activities. It is filled with things to do. There is a small activities section where you can indulge in mini golf, play a game of tennis or have a lazy day of Boules. You can visit the Castle Bude, small and picturesque castle that serves as the town’s heritage centre and art gallery. You can even take a joy-ride in one of the little trains driving around on its lawn.
Then to the beach, Bude’s greatest attraction. If the sun is out this large stretch of beach is packed with people soaking up the heat. Surfers come here to ride some of England’s best waves. There is even a seawater pool on the beach, and for those who are young at heart, it plays host to many a music festivals.
Bude is an amazing place and the perfect location to blow off some steam and relax. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting that part of England, even just to check it out, as it will creep into the heart of anyone gives it a chance.
