After a year of hard work, it’s now time to plan a holiday over the new year period. What better way to reward yourself than with a trip abroad. To help you get started we’ve put together a list of the best places to head to this New Year’s Eve, that is of course, should you want to make lasting memories and celebrate in style.

New York

From the iconic ball drop in Times Square, to the impressive fireworks displays in New York Harbour and Central Park, there is no shortage of celebrations in various venues across this iconic city. On the other hand, if you are looking for something more peaceful, do check out the annual New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace held in the beautiful nave of Saint John the Divine.


The annual London New Year’s Eve Fireworks sees Central London light up in spectacular fashion. A popular option is watching the fireworks from the river with ample food, beverages and music on offer nearby. For amazing views of London’s skyline, a good option is dinner at the much-revered Aqua Shard.

Hong Kong

No New Year’s celebration would be complete without a drink at one of Hong Kong’s world-renowned rooftop bars. Here the venue of choice is undoubtedly The Ritz-Carlton, formerly the highest bar in the world. Another popular option is watching the fireworks over Victoria Harbour from a traditional Chinese junk.


Edinburgh’s infamous Hogmanay celebrations, allow you to be a part of the traditional Old Town Ceilidh, the annual Concert in the Gardens, or the throng of lively revelers joining in the annual New Year’s Street Party. Cape Town

The annual New Year's Eve Fireworks and celebrations at the V&A Waterfront is the biggest of this city’s celebrations. Other popular options include the New Year’s Eve Concert at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens as well as various boat cruises in and around the city harbour.


Boasting what is one of Dubai’s most spectacular 360-degree views, Level 43, the rooftop bar and lounge at the Four Points by Sheraton on Sheikh Zayed Road is the place to be. Notably, the Burj Al Arab, Dubai’s highly esteemed seven-star hotel serves as the backdrop for the city’s most spectacular fireworks displays.


Whether its dancing and singing all night on the beach of Port Louis, fireworks in the streets or taking in the diverse mix of pop, reggae and local sega music, with both the first and second of January celebrated as public holidays in Mauritius, New Year’s is not only colourful but also long-lived.
