Bermuda – A Caribbean Jewel

23 November 2012

Just an easy three hour flight from NYC, Bermuda is truly a tropical oasis with stunning and untarnished natural beauty.  From beaches of pink sand and crystal clear turquoise waters to its cool island night-life  Bermuda is one of the best kept secrets of the Caribbean.

Bermuda Bermuda

The best way to get around the island is by scooter.  Favoured by locals, you’ll be able to explore things at your own pace and for a reasonable price.  First, you’ll want to check out Bermuda’s capital, Hamilton.    With unique white and pastel coloured buildings, Hamilton is the economic hub of the island and a quick drive from most major hotels.

Head to the harbour and walk along the dockyard. Watch the sail boats come in or book a reef boat cruise.  These glass bottomed boats are a lovely way to spend an afternoon and offer a chance to view some of the beautiful reefs, shipwrecks and wildlife that abound off Bermuda’s shores.

You can also check out the nearby Sea Glass beach famous for its shores made up entirely of glass! Stay for dinner and enjoy one of the city’s amazing restaurants.  Try Fresco’s for great Italian food with a romantic setting. Or, if you’re looking for something more casual Mad Hatters, but be sure to make a reservation as it’s a local favourite.A trip to Bermuda isn't complete without spending some time at the beach.  Bermudian beaches are known for their pink sand and stunningly clear turquoise waters.  Take a day trip to Elbow beach on the south side of the island or to Pink Beach in the north.

For a more private experience, try Horseshoe Bay beach which is far less popular with visitors. When you need a break from the sun, head up to Gibbs Hill Lighthouse - the oldest cast iron lighthouse in the world.  Here you will have unobstructed 360 degree views of the island in all its beauty.   Alternatively you can play a round of golf at one of the islands many championship courses.  There are also a number of military forts open to the public, and a stunning aquarium and natural history museum located in the quaint Flatt’s Village.  No matter how you want to enjoy your next beach holiday, Bermuda is an authentic taste of the Caribbean you’ll fall in love with.
