Flight Centre launches new local-is-lekker cruise ship

1 April 2019

All aboard, mateys!

Flight Centre is excited to announce the launch of our new mega-cruise ship, The Captain. The 115-passenger ship will set off on its maiden voyage from December 25, 2019 on a series of local-is-lekker themed cruises.
As the first South African travel agency group to purchase a cruise ship, we’re excited to bring the signature Flight Centre touch to the world of cruising.

Here are some of the unique experiences you can expect aboard The Captain:

Not only will you be able to fly your SA colours with staterooms themed after your favourite soccer, rugby and cricket teams, you’ll be able to get your practice time in with an onboard touch rugby field and cricket academy for the kids. Hit a six into the ocean and you’ll get a free drink!

Just because you’re at sea doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a good tjop en dop. Ocean-facing cabins will come with their own private balconies, complete with braai area. Passengers will be able to enjoy a cold one at the deckside beer tent or savour award-winning wines at the vineyard. Each day will feature a new cooking competition, focused on South African specialties like mogodu and potjiekos.

When the sun goes down, The Captain comes alive with the sounds of top local DJs. Guests can look forward to mzansi-themed party nights and signature red Flight Centre cocktails at the ship’s onboard nightclub Eish!. Prepare to be entranced by the Captain’s Cabaret, a nightly show featuring dances from all our favourite destinations around the world.

The ship will set sail between Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, with plans to expand to other popular cruise destinations, such as the Seychelles. We’ll operate back-to-back itineraries because we know our passengers won't want to leave.
