8 Awesome Parties & Events In Koh Samui and Phuket

16 October 2018

In Thailand, you’re never more than a few days away for a rocking party! Check out these awesome events in Phuket and Koh Samui taking place throughout the year. Full Moon parties, funky festivals, massive parades and the world’s biggest water fight, here we come!

1. Full Moon Party

Let’s kick things off with Thailand’s world-famous full moon parties. Bust out some neon gear and party under the stars with thousands of other travellers. Get your dance on to trance, reggae, rock and more. This is one party you absolutely have to tick off your bucket list. Full moon parties happen every few weeks during the full moon (obviously!). Take a look at our article we did on Full Moon parties here.

2. Loy Krathong

Also known as the ‘festival of light’, this glowing event takes place on the night of the full moon in November. ‘Loy’, is the Thai word meaning ‘to float’ and ‘krathong’ is a small float made from banana leaves filled with incense and candles. During the festival, you’ll find pretty much every body of water (the sea, swimming pools, lakes and more) filled with twinkling floats. Loy Krathong is more of a peaceful vibe than a wild party, but it’s totally worth experiencing.

3. Patong Carnival

Phuket kicks off high season in December with the colourful Patong Carnival. Get ready for larger-than-life parades, unforgettable stage performances, live music, and loads of food and drink.

4. New Year’s Eve

New Year’s in Koh Samui is where it’s at. Famous DJs, crazy fire shows and dancing that goes on way beyond sunrise (sometimes until January the 2nd!). Get down to the Ark Bar on Chaweng Beach for an all-out party or mix it up at Nikki Beach in Lipa Noi. Phuket is no less awesome. From beach clubs and Bangla Road to nightclubs and just about every street corner, you’ll find a massive party pretty much anywhere you go.

5. Chinese New Year

Think New Year’s Eve is a blast? Hang onto your party hats, ‘cause Chinese New Year is going to blow your mind! In February, locals go all-out with booming fireworks, wild performances, raucous crowds and dazzling outfits. You might want to bring some earplugs for this one.

6. UnKonscious Paradise Beach Phuket

This is a new Trance music festival vibe that hit the scene in Feb 2018. Since then it’s become a huge hit with the hard-core EDM scene. The party heats up on Paradise Beach in Phuket in February. Party hard with international DJs. Stomp your feet on powdery white sands. And stay up till the sun rises over the ocean.

7. Koh Samui Tha Midnight Run

Work up a sweat on the Koh Samui Tha Midnight run. This vibey race takes place in March at the stroke of midnight. The run starts and ends at the Reggae Bar (one of Koh Samui’s hottest party spots), with loads of runners, joggers and walkers. Snap on some glow-in-the-dark spandex and get your cardio on!

8. Songkran

Get wet and wild at splashy Songkran! This huge event in April has over half a million people getting drenched in water fights on the streets, in their hotels and everywhere else. Don’t even bother trying to stay dry, you’ll get hit with super-size water guns, buckets of water and even fire hoses from dusk till dawn. For the ultimate water fight, bring your beach gear to Phuket where things get really wet!
