5 Reasons India Should Be At The Top Of Your Travel List

17 May 2018

They say that once you've been to India, you'll never see the world the same way again. Find out why this intense, colourful and chaotic country should be one of your must-see-places-before-I-die.

1. Meet your new BFFs

India loves company. Despite its crazy crowded streets, Indian people are always super excited to welcome visitors to their country. There's a saying in India, "Athithi Devo Bhava", which means "the guest is God." Whether you're invited into their homes for tea, chatting at a market stall or waving back at kids playing in the street, you'll make friends wherever you go.

2. Say Ohm

India is practically floating on a cloud of Zen with its rich history of religious culture and spiritualism. After all, this is where Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism first began. Work on your yoga moves or find your inner peace in a meditation retreat in an ashram. For some extreme spirituality, take part in an evening aarti (fire worship) along the Ganges River. Namaste!

3. OMG there is SO much to see

It's impossible to get bored in a country that has over 100 official monuments and countless other architectural, historical and natural wonders. A visit to the Taj Mahal is a no-brainer, since this is one of the most famous 7 Wonders of the World. But let's not forget about the mighty Agra Fort, the ghost town of Fatehpur Sikri, the famous Red Fort in Delhi, the impressive Konark Sun Temple, and more iconic sites than the number of filters you have on Instagram.

4. Get hot and spicy

Hungry? You've come to the right place! India is famous for its amazing food from rich, creamy curries in the north to spicy coconut curries in the south. Pig out on juicy lamb roganjosh, tender tandoori chicken and tasty masala dosa - all eaten with your hands. Want to get really hands on? Take a cooking class and learn how to make these mouth-watering dishes yourself.

5. Get your adventure on

Towering mountains, rushing rivers, wild jungles and all sorts of exciting terrain make India the perect place to get your adrenaline fix. Go whitewater rafting on the Zanskar River or paddle along the Ganges. Conquer snow-covered peaks in the Himalayas. Get off the beaten track and go cycling in Bangalore. Hit the ski slopes in Kufri or parasail over Payyambalam Beach. Then hop on a yak and go on a desert safari. Woohoo!
