Intrepid Travel

At Intrepid we believe that travel is one of the most entertaining, enlightening, life changing and fulfilling things you could ever do, and having operated trips throughout Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, the Pacific and Latin America for over 18 years, we've got a fair idea of how good it can get.

We're one of the world’s leading small group adventure tour operators and for us travel is all about experiencing those 'real' moments; be it a laugh with a stall owner while haggling over bananas, an impromptu game of football with the local village kids, a home cooked meal under a starry desert sky or that thrill you get when you glimpse one of the great icons of the world for the first time.

After being runner up in the 2006 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, Intrepid are thrilled to win the Best Tour Operator and be the Overall Joint Winner of the 2006 Responsible Tourism Awards in the UK.

For the past 18 years we've maintained a commitment to responsible and sustainable travel. We work with communities by establishing local businesses, we train and use local operators and we always ensure that our travellers really interact with the locals in their host communities.

By travelling responsibly we're working to ensure that these incredible places, fascinating cultures and wonderful people are here to greet us in years to come. We're empowering the local communities and creating richer, real life experiences for travellers.

The Responsible Tourism Awards are the largest of their kind in the world and are a collaboration between on-line travel agent www.responsibletravel.com, UK media partners The Times and Geographical Magazine, supporters Conservation International and The World Travel Market.

The central tenet of the Awards is that all types of tourism - from niche to mainstream - can and should be operated in a way that respects and benefits destinations and local people.

With 1200 nominations Intrepid was up against some stiff competition.

The panel of 13 expert judges were particularly impressed by The Intrepid Foundation and the work that it carries out to help local people, following disasters such as the tsunami. Intrepid were also praised for the way in which we facilitate interaction between tourists and the host community.

Intrepid are incredibly proud to have won the 2006 Responsible Travel awards, but we are constantly looking at new ways to be at the forefront of responsible tourism. Each of our trips is reviewed yearly to ensure that we continue to travel responsibly and continue to empower the local communities we work with.
