Bangkok is a modern city with an ancient heart, Buddhist temples nestle between skyscrapers, sampans slide along canals and traffic fills the busy streets. Even cheap Bangkok holidays are full of contrast, colour sights and sounds; a distinctly Thai take on city life.
When to visit?
Average temperatures rarely drop below 30 degrees centigrade but can climb to 40 in April and May so whenever you go, it will be hot. Surprisingly, the city sees few clear skies but September and October tend to have heavy rain so those are dates to avoid with your cheap Bangkok holidays.
What are the must-see attractions?
The best way to see Bangkok is from a long tail boat. Tours take you up the river and then along the network of canals where traders sell their goods from small sampans and stilt houses line the waterways. There is a museum there dedicated to the magnificent golden royal barges used to convey the king and queen of Siam. A visit to one of the many mystical and majestic temples, such as Wat Po, Wat Phra Kaew and the Temple of Dawn, is a must.
What else is there to do?
If booking cheap Bangkok holidays has left you with money to spend, then the shops in Bangkok will not disappoint – the quality is good and the prices low. At the weekend, visit the Chatuchak Market which sells virtually everything.
