To Our Valued Client
Please use this basic check list before embarking on your travels!
For any further advice, please contact your flight centre consultant.
PASSPORT
- Is your passport valid?
- Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months AFTER your arrival back in the country
- Do all the people travelling with you have passports?
- Each person (including infants) needs a passport
- Is the name on your ticket exactly the same as in your passport?
VISAS
- Do you have valid visas?
- Please check that you have visas for all the countries you are visiting.
Please note that visas differ per passport type
- If you are transiting via another country, have you confirmed if you need any visa for that country?
Please note, you will NOT be allowed into a country if you do not have a valid visa! Most countries require South African citizens to carry a visa. Allow yourself at least 2-3 weeks for each visa you require. Contact the relevant embassy or your Flight Centre consultant for information on your visa requirements.
OTHER
- Do you have enough money and alternatives to cash? (travellers cheques, credit cards etc.)
Some countries require proof of available funds
- Does your credit card have certain limits outside of South Africa? Card limit may be blocked - ensure you have sufficient funds!
- Do you have travel insurance? Is this insurance comprehensive?
- Do you require any vaccines or medical checkups?
- Are you in good enough health to travel?
- If you have any disabilities, will you be able to travel easily? Make sure your fitness and health levels are right for the trip you are taking
YOUR FLIGHT
- Have you booked a transfer to the airport through your agent?
- How early do you need to be at the airport before your flight?
- These differ per destination and can change. Always check with your consultant for the correct time to be at the airport.
- Do you know what airline you are flying and the flight number?
- Is your flight direct to the destination or are you going via another city? Make sure you know your flight itinerary to avoid any surprises
- If you are going via another city, how long is the stopover?
- Do you have any special requirements for your flight? Let your consultant know beforehand so they can make arrangements
- Do you have specific food requirements for your meals on the flight?
- What are you allowed to take in your cabin luggage?
- Do you know the space limitations for cabin luggage? Most airlines allow up to 7kgs. Please confirm the weight and size limitations with your consultant
- Do you know the space limitations for check-in luggage? We recommend you confirm the exact space and weight limitations with your consultant as they differ per destination/routing
- Can you smoke on your flight?
- Do you know what the repercussions are if you miss your flight/tour or the flight is delayed or cancelled? These are specific according to the airline or operator. Please ensure you are fully aware of any consequences
- Have you confirmed your onward/return flights?
- Is there a major time difference between your home and the country you are visiting? Do you know if you will be jet-lagged at your final destination?
YOUR DESTINATION
- Do you know what languages they speak at your destination? You may need a guide and language book
- Do you know where your accommodation is located in respect to the sites of the city?
- Does your accommodation cater for your exact requirements?
- Is your accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis? Do they cater for other meals? Are there restaurants close by?
- If you are travelling with children, are their needs catered for?
- Have you left your family with contact details of your accommodation? Get the contact details from your consultant in case of emergencies
- If you are backpacking, are there specific laws in the country for hikers? Make yourself fully aware of all laws in the country concerning this
- What type of public transport is offered at your destination? How much does it cost? Make sure you set aside enough money to travel around the city and also establish the safest, most cost-effective way of travel
- Are you aware of distances you may be travelling between towns and cities, especially if you are catching connecting flights/trains etc? Do not underestimate the distance and time of travel you will need to get around. Take into consideration that some domestic and
international airports can also be a distance apart
- Is it safe to travel alone in the countries you are visiting? Check up on the safety of the country and the places to avoid
- What taxes do you pay at your destination? GST or other taxes may apply to your purchases
- Are there certain tipping etiquettes where you are visiting?
- Are you in a country where there are dress codes? Certain religions demand specific dress codes
- Are there any customs, traditions and cultural taboos that will affect you?
- Are you able to photograph all of the places you are visiting? Some locals do not allow you to photograph them. Some government or religious establishments are out of bounds for photographers
- Do you have details of the closest Flight Centre to you? Check online for your closest Flight Centre store
ON YOUR WAY HOME
- What time do you have to be at the airport to return home or to continue your travelling? Different times may apply to the certain airports
- Is there an additional departure tax you need to pay at the airport? There are some countries that require additional departure tax when leaving the country. Note that some airports only accept cash
- Have you organised a transfer back home?
PACKING
- Do you know what you may NOT take into the country?
- Do you know what the climate is? Have you packed accordingly?
- Do you have a good suitcase that will be easy to move around? Remember you also may have to tip porters to move your luggage
- Is your hand luggage light and easy to carry? It can be tiring carrying heavy items around before boarding
- Do you have a secure bag you will be able to carry around the cities you are visiting that will hold your camera, money etc? Tourists are easily spotted and prime targets for pickpockets
